Unfortunately the groom wedding speech isn’t something for you to just write what you like – You also have to make sure you don’t leave anyone out of the grooms speech. It took me an age to realise, but it really is about keeping everyone happy to ensure not just your groom speech but your whole your wedding day goes smoothly!

Thank The Right People

One of the first things I made sure was in my groom speech was to thank just about anyone who had got me to where I was on my big day. Whether that was my lovely bride, my best man, everyone who gave me advice (good and bad) – I made a point of thanking them all. And don’t forget the father of the groom speeches! He normally has something to say about you in his father of the bride speech, so it pays to have something good to say about them first. Always thank him first and foremost before continuing with the groom speeches.

Mentioning Your Family

Although I had told everyone the story a million times, I thought it best to start my groom speech with a story about how I met my wonderful bride. This always goes down well, and is a great people-pleaser for all of those who have made a big effort to be there on your wedding day.

Next, I will try to add in some praise for my family. This is an important occasion for everyone and your best chance to show the special people in your life what they mean to you by telling them. Even if they didn’t directly help me with the wedding, they still played an important part in my life as a whole so far.

Always remember, your big day is about the love for your bride, but it’s also about the family and friends you have around you. Even though I was really, really nervous about groom speeches, it didn’t take me long to realise that it isn’t actually that hard to please everybody if you’re careful and do it properly!
